Practice independence with patients at the center.

OptOutMD exists to make the path toward a more independent practice easier to understand and more thoughtfully planned.

Our mission

Why this business exists.

Physicians are asking hard questions about how their practices are paid. The information available to them is uneven. Some of it is legally precise but impenetrable. Some of it is enthusiastic but imprecise, treating very different decisions as though they were interchangeable.

OptOutMD was built to sit in between: to explain what these choices actually involve, in plain language, without overselling any of them. Our mission is to help physicians understand their options and plan carefully, with their patients and their practice in mind.

We are not here to tell you that insurance-based practice is failing or that a different model guarantees a better outcome. Physicians who participate with payers provide excellent care. The question is which arrangement fits the practice you want to run.

How we work

The principles behind the guidance.

Precision over slogans

Medicare opt-out, commercial payer participation, and practice structure are three different subjects. We keep them separate because collapsing them is how practices end up surprised.

Questions before answers

The right path depends on your specialty, market, patient mix, agreements, and goals. We would rather help you ask better questions than hand you someone else's conclusion.

Patients in the frame

A payment change is something your patients experience. Planning how it is explained is part of the work, not a communications task bolted on at the end.

Clear about our limits

We are an education and guidance business. We are not your attorney, your accountant, or your billing company, and we will tell you when a question belongs with one of them.

Who we serve

Physician-focused, with orthopedic roots.

Orthopedic surgery is where our thinking about surgical practice economics began, and surgeons remain an important part of who we work with. The questions involved in payment change, though, are shared widely across specialties.

Where an answer genuinely depends on specialty-specific billing, referral patterns, or facility relationships, we will say so rather than assume your situation resembles someone else's.

Practice administrators are welcome to reach out on behalf of a physician or a group.

Practice Independence. Patient First.

Independence is not the goal in itself. The goal is a practice that is sustainable to run and clear to the people it serves.

We will follow up to discuss an appropriate next step. No decision required to start the conversation.
